One of the two Ashokan pillars in Delhi is at Northern Ridge. It stands on the road between Mutiny Memorial & Hindu Rao Hospital. Built by Ashoka during ancient times, transported to Delhi in the 14th cent by a curious king & then interpreted by the Orientalists.
Here’s a video which talks about this pillar – as we explored the Landmarks of the Revolt of 1857 at the Northern Ridge!
Not many are aware about how the Hindu Rao Hospital (Delhi) is associated to the Revolt of 1857!! This building was once the bungalow of a “White Mughal” William Fraser.. and has witnessed a lot of action during the days of the sepoy mutiny. This quick video throws some more light on this aspect. Happy Exploring 🙂
Much closer to Pir Ghaib (shown in the previous episode)..there’s this massive Baoli (step-well) right behind the Hindu Rao Hospital. This was used to provide water to the 14th century hunting-lodge and observatory and other nearby areas. Happy Exploring!
A 14th century astronomical observatory.. a seer who vanished.. the revolt of 1857 .. and how the legend of PIR GHAIB connects these dots in the story of India! All this and more in this episode. Cheers 🙂
Celebrating GHALIB (Episode 2) – Let us take you to the place where the great poet Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan “Ghalib” once lived!
For all lovers of GHALIB ..here’s the final episode of our visit to his Haveli. Interesting anecdotes from Ghalib’s life, Poetry, Lanes of Old Delhi and much more in here! Enjoy
