The meaning of “Azaan”

I used to wonder about what the “Azaan” actually means.
I was often mesemerized by the mystical enigma created by the sound of the morning Azaans near my place.
I knew that it is a call to people to make them aware of the time of  prayer..but never knew the exact meaning of the verses that are called out. Here’ what I found after a little online research.  (Please see post script).
